Font Size and Leading how do you go about changing it,?

I have a project due on Monday I am stuck trying to get the type over the original copy, I have the original copy lightened so I can type over it and maneuver the type on the layer above it which says the same thing I an trying to maneuver the type by changing the point size and leading ,.. how do you do that or is there a tut on this that is free and where. THANK YOU very much I would appreciate serious answers no spamming I have no time for that.
