Does this make me a mean person?

Ok I'm 14, and the other day my folks and I saw a dead body in the street (covered up) after the person was ejected from a rolled car. We checked it out because my mom and I are nosey. Anyways today we found out it was some 12 year old kid. My mom was expecting me to react like "OMG thats horrible" when all I really said was "Oh, okay, and...." like I was expecting something else. My mom responded with 'and....? as if she was surprised because I wasn't concerned... then she told me I was mean because I said I didn't care, I didn't know the person and its not my problem. I mean big whoop people die, part of life. Does that really make me a bad person because I'm not really sympathetic and death doesn't bother me too much? How would you react?
